We received an unexpected but pleasant surprise today when the Dallas Fuel announced the signing of Dong-ha “Doha” Kim. Yes, Doha, part of the DPS duo that lead Element Mystic to finish top 2 in every event they entered in 2019. This includes winning NetEase Esports X Tournament – 2019 – Autumn, Contenders 2019: The Gauntlet, Contenders 2019: Pacific Showdown, and Contenders 2019 Season 1: Korea. He joins a growing list of his teammates now ready to prove themselves in next year’s Overwatch League season.
Doha joins a gang of fellow damage dealers, Gui-un “Decay” Jang, Dylan “aKm” Bignet, Zachary “ZachaREEE” Lombardo, and Timo “Taimou” Kettunen all jockeying for a starting position on the team. Each have shown that they are capable of performing and Doha is no exception. His performance last season, in Contenders: Korea, earned him the reputation as one of the top Sombras. But he’s not just some one-trick. He has demonstrated he has a hero pool that can survive meta changes. This includes current meta picks Doomfist, Reaper or even pulling out the Bastion for maps such as Eichenwalde.
What Doha’s signing means to the Fuel?
Doha’s signing means the Dallas Fuel are now roster capped . Coach Aero and team management have some possible hard choices to make, as having 5 DPS could pose a shortage in roster depth in other areas. This writer believes that with the signing of Doha, we will see at least 1 DPS player removed from the team before the 2020 season starts. However, this roster is solidifying into a more formidable team that could transcend expectations for the 2020 season. The possibility is high that next year will be a very bright blue one.
